Harrison Barnes Isn't a Max Player....Why?

Lebron james was one of just five players in the history of the 40 points in the back-to-back NBA Finals games during Game 6 win, keeping the season in Cleveland alive. On the other side of things, Harrison Barnes continued to struggle mightily. In Games 5 and 6, the Warriors' starting small forward to shoot 2-of-22 from the field (9.1%).

Eight players from Golden State 73-win system are set to come off the books this summer - no more noteworthy than Barnes. I swingman who is 24 years old and "Death status" member has always been pegged as the agent who will bring a max contract, but he is worth that kind of money?

his youth, postseason experience and contributions to the group in the history of the NBA all work in his favor, but the figures should give pause groups. Using PointAfter Images from Graphiq, we'll break it down why Barnes should not be that kind of investment.

Postseason Houdini:

Barnes disappeared entirely recent NBA Finals. Ben Golliver pointed 0-of-8 shooting performance in Game 6 - a former Tar Heel you did it last year as well.

His outstanding play in the 2013 playoffs - if, as a Rookie, he averaged 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds in 12 games - gave rise to the mythical narrative for Barnes as a young man steps up in the postseason. However, Barnes has not matched that output playoff atmosphere from. His scoring prowess in the postseason this year compared with the regular season down across the board.
Says scoring a few points effective video (beyond the arc and within it), which is certainly not what Golden State needed no Draymond Green (Game 5 suspension) and Andrew Bogut (leg injury).

"Playoff Barnes" is just Anomaly, it is impossible to forgive him a max deal this offseason.

Three-and-D?

Last summer, boasting free agents coveted "three D" skillset were hot commodities. That might actually be an understatement, as $ 231 million in income was committed to just five players that archetype: Khris Middleton, Danny Green, DeMarre Carroll, Iman Shumpert and Wesley Matthews.
However, it is noteworthy, that only one of those talents received a max deal: Matthews. his contract jumped max after DeAndre Jordan reneged in the agreement would join the Dallas Mavericks.

Of course, if the contract was difficult to protect almost immediately. Matthews not only coming off a Achilles torn catastrophic injuries to any athlete - but the guard was shooting just 30.3 percent from beyond the arc in November. He recovered in December, but again fell to 30.4 percent in January - an inconsistency that plagued him throughout the year.

Barnes does not harm such a background to be wary of, but he is also close talent of the same defense as .Quintet wings signed a year ago. In fact, the Warriors opponents were superior offensively when Barnes was on the court.
They shot a higher percentage from the field, picked up a large percentage of murders of available rebounds, dished out to help more and score 100 points per possessions when Barnes was out there, which does not describe a type of Barnes' defense.

In addition, Barnes' defensive box plus / minus (DBPM) of -0.6 11th-ranked Warriors.

Barnes did not drain very respectable 38.3 percent of his three arrows pointing to this season, but the lack of defensive chops may even put him in the same as guys like Carroll and Green. Does that make him deserving of a max deal?

Besides performing consistently on both offense and less glamorous end of the court, the answer is obviously no.

Paltry Per:

While typical, Barnes posted 12.32 player efficiency rating. That ranked 236th out of the players trained 350. his mark was worse than Cameron Payne, Lance Stephenson and Spencer Hawes, among others - not exactly suggesting he's worth the dollar on the open market.

Not surprisingly, Barnes' less than impressive compared to the Warrior of his former teammates.
Barnes doubt drawn from the plethora marquee talents Bay Area, but his numbers do not exactly instill confidence that can be "the guy" and elsewhere the opportunity to be added.

However, with 2016 set to be a shallow free-agent pool of talent, would not be the least bit shocking to see somewhere around the NBA landscape and offer max contract.

Barnes will not turn 25 until next May, so there is still a reasonable opportunity to fully breakout on the horizon. But until that happens, the max a unproven commodity will return to fight franchise upstart looking for long-term building blocks toward contention.
